4 Cool Tips on How to Adopt an Abundance Mindset

With the coronavirus pandemic grinding daily life to a halt, and putting everyone in a quarantine mode, more and more people are falling prey to fear, anxiety and depression. What's sad about this deluge of fear, anxiety and sadness is that it's leading to the rise of negative mindsets like the scarcity mentality, wherein the individual seriously thinks that  there's a scarcity in everything from food to clothing, housing job and business opportunities! To steer clear of the scarcity mindset, here are a couple of cool tips on how to adopt the abundance mentality.

Focus on What You Have, With a Grateful Attitude

Before we talk about how to adopt the abundance mentality, let's first discuss what this is all about. The term “abundance mindset” was actually invented by US author, educator, businessman and motivational speaker Stephen Covey in 1989, of which he mentioned this in his best-seller The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.

Compared to a scarcity mentality, the abundance mentality's mantra is a more positive and optimistic one, as it asserts that “there's plenty out there and enough to spare for everybody”. To adopt the abundance mindset, you should first focus on what you already have, with a grateful attitude.

You could start by appreciating your good health, and volunteer to help those in need. You could also create a list of things that you are truly grateful for, as well as write a letter expressing your gratitude to others.

Organize all Aspects of Your Life

If you live in a messy, cluttered and filthy environment at home, then it's likely that you will lose track of what you already have, or what you wish to achieve in life. So, clean up all the clutter and organize everything in your life (and not just your closet). By doing this, you will see life in a clearer and more organized manner.

Adopt a “Beginner's Mind”

The third tip on how to adopt the  abundance mentality would be to espouse an old Buddhist concept called “Shoshin” or the Beginner's Mind! Shoshin denotes having an eager attitude, an open mind and throwing away all pre-conceived notions when studying a topic or subject (even if you're still a beginner to it).

Why is a Beginner's Mind essential? It's because if you think that you always know it all, then you may lose your ability to be creative, or to see things with a new eye (or a new perspective). Adopting Shoshin can help enhance your creativity, build better relationships and widen your experiences.

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

Be grateful you're alive, and always keep in mind that you're not in this world to compete with others. If you get tangled in the crazy web of intense competition, you will eventually end up with everything they wanted, but not what you want!

The abundance mentality enables the individual to delay gratification because they don't need to have everything at once. This also allows them to save time, energy and money by making them focus on their wants and needs without scarcity (or fear) influencing their decisions!
